Dental Examinations

We encourage our patients to visit CJ Dentistry twice-yearly for checkups and examinations. An oral hygiene regimen is an effective way to safeguard against decay and gum disease.  However, at-home care is not as comprehensive as a professional cleaning. With an examination, we can determine whether any areas of the teeth require attention before the problem has a chance to affect your oral health. We screen for cavities, gum disease, malocclusion, chips and cracks, plaque buildup, and oral cancer.

Sedative Dentistry

We are happy to provide sedative dentistry for our patients who have anxiety. Additionally, sedation dentistry is ideal for patients who are undergoing more extensive treatments; as these procedures can last several hours, sedation dentistry makes the experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We believe that nobody should forgo needed dental treatment because of a fear of the dental chair. We are advocates of sedation dentistry treatments at our Scottsdale dental practice because it allows individuals who would otherwise avoid the dentist to receive the oral care that they need.

Digital X-rays

X-ray examinations provide us with a clear picture of the alignment of your teeth, the presence of any wisdom teeth that may be developing, and the health of the teeth below the gumline. Traditional X-ray imaging provided just a snapshot of the teeth; though effective to a degree, it could not develop as comprehensive a picture of the teeth as panoramic digital X-ray imaging is able to.

Dental Mouthguards

If you compete in contact sports or grind your teeth during sleep, we can have custom mouthguards fabricated to meet your exact specifications. After taking an impression of your teeth, a mold will be sent off to a dental laboratory where your mouthguard will be crafted. To ensure the quality of our dental restorations and mouthguards, all of the dental laboratories that we work with are located in the United States. We refuse to compromise on quality to save money on our end. Rest assured, your mouthguards will fit precisely and be made from the most durable materials.

Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatment

We can greatly reduce the chance for cavity development with dental sealants and fluoride treatment. Natural tooth enamel can be eroded through everyday processes as well as by acid caused by plaques and sugars in the mouth. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps remineralize the tooth enamel. With fluoride treatment and sealants, we can greatly reduce the risk of tooth decay and protect the tooth from damaging elements.

Dental Implants

A dental implant, along with a prosthetic known as an implant restoration, can be used to treat gaps in the teeth, as well as severely damaged teeth that require extraction. If left untreated, surrounding teeth can slowly migrate into the space left by a missing or extracted tooth, resulting in malocclusion and impaired function. Dental implants, which are secured into the jaw bone, provide a stable, long-term artificial platform for dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, and dentures. These implant restorations are affixed atop implant abutments to serve as replacement teeth. Fully functional and natural looking, implant restorations can revitalize a person’s smile.

Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain crowns and bridges are dental prosthetics that can be used to treat damaged or decayed teeth, as well as gaps in the smile. They can also serve as implant restorations. A dental crown, commonly referred to as a cap, is placed over teeth that are severely damaged or decayed. This prevents the affected tooth from deteriorating further in addition to restoring its functionality and appearance. Made from porcelain, dental crowns look completely natural, and are durable enough to withstand the natural rigors of chewing. Because they are secured to the affected tooth, they function just as a natural tooth would, and require no specialized care of any kind, outside of normal oral hygiene regimens.

Root Canal Therapy (RCT)

CJ Dentistry in Scottsdale provides root canal therapy to remove advanced dental infection and help preserve the outer structure of your tooth. We use a rotary tool that makes the procedure faster and allows us to treat multiple teeth when required. Our approach to root canals makes the procedure nearly painless for the patient. After eliminating the tooth decay, we seal the tooth with a hard composite resin. During the same visit, Dr. Joh can provide a custom all-ceramic crown to restore the treated tooth without a need for another appointment.

Dentures

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, dentures provide a functional, aesthetically pleasing solution. Though typically dentures are removable, this often results in shifting, which can cause discomfort and impair functionality. With dental implants, we can secure the dentures so that they fit precisely. Implant-secured dentures look and function just as natural teeth do, and can be easily maintained. Stabilizing the denture greatly improves the patient’s quality of life because it allows him or her to maintain normal habits. Implant-secured dentures are a tremendous restorative dentistry option, and we are happy to offer them at our Scottsdale dental office.

Prophylaxis / Cleaning

Prophylaxis is a standard procedure that is performed by the hygienist each time yo have a dental cleaning. Prophylaxis includes scaling and root planing. Scaling is the removal of calcified plaque and tartar from the outer surface of the teeth. Root planing is scaling that takes place below the gum line. Prophylaxis is performed with special dental files and scalers. These tools are specifically designed to fit in the spaces between teeth and under the gum line. They are sharp enough to dislodge hardened plaque and tartar from the tooth, but gentle enough that they do not damage the tooth enamel. Prophylaxis should be performed every six months. It is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require any anesthesia and does not require any post-procedure care beyond normal brushing and flossing.

Fillings

A cavity is a hole in a tooth that is the result of decay. Tooth decay occurs when plaque, the residue that builds up on teeth, combines with sugars and starches from food. This combination of plaque and food residue mixes with the bacteria in the mouth and forms an acid that erodes tooth enamel, exposing the tooth to decay. If a cavity is not treated, the decay in the tooth will spread until it affects the root of the tooth.

Cavities are treated using ether a direct or an indirect filling. The most aesthetically pleasing type of filling is a direct composite (or resin) filling.

Please ask Dr. Joh and staff which option is good for you.

Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. When a tooth experiences decay, trauma or infection so severe it cannot be saved even with endodontic root canal on a bicuspid tooth, or root canal on a molar, tooth extraction is recommended. Once the tooth has been removed, and depending on your next steps for care, your dentist may proceed with the immediate placement of a dental implant, conduct a tooth socket graft to prevent bone resorption that begins rather immediately after the loss of a tooth, or simply allow the opening in the gum to heal on its own as with wisdom tooth extraction.
